The fiercest competition with the fastest boats returns to the water in the Arizona desert this May. Series sponsor Lucas Oil brings the Ken Smith Memorial Drag Boat Nationals to Lake Havasu’s Thompson Bay on May 2 to 4.
This will be the second race in a nine race national series. Top drag boats can clear a 1,000 ft. course in just 3.3 seconds at over 260 mph, and Lake Havasu provides some of the finest surfaces on the schedule, so spectators are in for one heck of a thrill. Attendees can watch from Lake Havasu City’s 40-acre, recently renovated Rotary Park.
The event is bigger and better than previous years, with an extended schedule to allow for coverage by CBS and NBC television.
Food vendors, a beer garden and other activities and displays will be available for attendees all three days. Single day tickets range from $5 to $20, with three day passes available for just $40, and free entry for pre-teens.
“The racers and crews are very excited to come to Lake Havasu,” said Todd Taylor, logistics and event planning manager for Lucas Oil. “It’s a great community, and one of our favorite races.”
